The Aarhus Public Showers has been generated through a series of ongoing development drawings and physical models that investigate the tension and complexity that exists between a variety of contrasting everyday realities.
The project draws upon a diversity of filmic, literary, illustrative and artistic references for inspiration and architectural operation. Located in a back courtyard in Aarhus, Denmark, the public showers emphasise the subtle shifts in the seemingly ordinary materiality of the site to suggest at a hidden world beyond. It presents a duality between fantasy and reality - contrasted through the architecture itself and the programmatic operation as a method of illumination.
Overall, the Aarhus Public Showers aims to controversially engage with cultural themes of identity and belonging, while discussing relevant political and social conversations surrounding immigration and foreign integration.
